Rutkowski Running to Prioritize Public Safety, Maintain Democratic House Majority
Westland City Council President Pro Tempore Andrea Rutkowski is running for the State House to represent District 25, including Westland, Wayne, Dearborn Heights (part) and Canton Township (part).
“During my time on City Council, I have prioritized public safety, infrastructure, and small business growth,” Rutkowski said. “As the wife of a firefighter and the parent of a public school student, I will bring those same priorities to Lansing, alongside building on the work of the Democratic majority in the House.”
Across 2023, the House Democratic Majority has repealed the retirement tax, delivered record funding for schools, and repealed unpopular laws limiting access to abortion.
“As a PTA president and former small business owner, I know the challenges that working families and communities face,” Rutkowski said. “I am determined to win this important election to maintain Democrats’ majority and deliver the solutions residents of Westland, Wayne, Dearborn Heights, and Canton Township deserve.”
Following Mayor Kevin Coleman’s election in November, a special election for the seat has been called with a primary election date of January 30 and the general election set for April 16.
“I am grateful for the backing of my family and so many community leaders who approached me about pursuing this opportunity to serve my neighbors,” Rutkowski said. “I will work tirelessly to earn this position and be their voice in Lansing.”
